I got two of them the last time and they work perfectly... so I thought I'd maybe grab one or two this time, but I ran into a problem..

I hit Fling me 1, then entered my info, it took me to the Check box page to accept terms and conditions and the submit order button, but I changed my mind and decided I was going to order two possibly, I wanted to double check my paypal account to make sure there was enough with shipping in there..

I hit the 'back' button, and up popped a receipt for my order?! but I've got no confirmation from TF about the order... but looking at my bank account it went though, i can see the charge already from TF..

basically I never agreed to the terms and never hit the submit order button, I hit back and it submitted my order for me in spite of me never hitting submit or agreeing?! Glitch or bug or what?! Basically if I changed my mind totally and decided that i didn't want it, the order still went through anyway.. not very nice at all, apparently we can't change our mind?

now though if I try and order another one, it says I can't as it will take me over the limit for the day...

but if you look, the drop down box says I can order two of them?! What gives here?

and yes I did submit a ticket already...

I've ordered a few things from TF in my time here, and never had a problem.. I've always been happy with what I got, but putting an order though without ever actually hitting the submit button is troublesome to me...

I did the same thing to check what happens based on what you said and yes initially when I went back to start over it gave me the usual message .. I can't as it will take me over the limit for the day.. and also showed a pending order in My Flings also My bank shows my Current balance as x and my available balance as x -$85.98( 2 of these + shipping) but no charge actually listed in my history. I waited a few mins for ThingFling to reset, no longer showing a pending order in My flings and I was able to resubmit the order through to completion. Now when you are ordering something whether it is online or in a regular store as soon as you enter the credit card info or paypal log-in info or the cashier swipes your card your bank/ credit card company/ paypal immediately queries your account to check funds availability pending completion of the transaction and puts the funds( if available) on hold. Now unfortunately most financial institutions don't immediately release those funds back to the account as quickly as ThingFling refreshes. But until you actually complete the transaction the funds have not actually been removed from the account. it took about another 30 mins for my bank to reset from the incomplete transaction. So if you dont have the funds to cover both the incomplete transaction that was put on hold and the second transaction that you actually want to complete it may reject it until your bank/ credit card company/ paypal releases the funds after recognizing that the transaction was not completed. so you may have to wait a little longer than just for ThingFling to reset. HTH YMMV

BTW everyone this is actually a much better unit than the previous one offered. For starters there are more than 2 outlets. This one: 1100VA/600WA battery backup with 2200 joule surge protection Previous one: 850VA/425 Watt UPS battery backup no surge protection mentioned in description. The previous ones came just the unit packed in a cardboard box with foam inserts to immobilize it in the box and the few extras that were thrown in as the Mystery aspect of that posting. This unit comes with:
Features:

* Free auto shutdown software included
* USB communications interface (free 3ft. cable included)
* Audible alarm
* 6ft. power cord
* circuit breaker
* Power on/off test switch
* Power on LED - Indicates AC mode, back-up mode, and battery fault
* 5 battery back-up and surge protected outlet
* USB interface port for software/computer interface
* Surge protected combination ports accommodate either phone (RJ11) or network (RJ45) jacks (Free 6ft. phone cord included)
* 10 transformer spaced outlets
* Rechargeable and replaceable battery
But all that explains the difference in price... This unit $39.99, previous AMB A brand new UPS battery backup $24.99.
I did get the previous AMB A brand new UPS battery backup and it has already been worth it due to little power blips, you know, the kind that are just enough to make your digital clock start flashing 12:00... 12:00...12:00... 12:00 and restart your cable boxes and computers if you happen to have them turned on. We had some pretty good storms a couple of weeks ago and no power fluctuation at all during the storms but the next morning when it was clear, bright and sunny we had a power hiccup/ blip. I only knew it happened because of the loud BEEP the unit yelled out and my roommate griping about the cable box resetting while he was watching an on demand movie. I was in the middle of something on my computer and it didn't have any signs of the power blip.With the previous AMB units we have the UPS unit plugged into the wall and the Surge protector power strips( with 3 computers, monitors, router, modem, printer and lamps) plugged into the UPS unit. When I get these UPS units the 3 computers, monitors, router, modem, printer and lamps will get connected to these and at least 1 of the previous will go to the main TV room for tv and cable box, game consoles and dvd player Laughing YMMV

I understand about the bank account, my point is that I never hit the submit button, or never checked the box to agree to the terms etc, I just hit the back button, and up popped a receipt... my card was charged even before I agreed to buy the product...

and I heard back from TF , I responded to them, as they asked if I would like to still buy it, and I said yes of course, but it's been three hours since then.... and no response back as to how I can purchase it still... but I can now purchase it through the normal interface, but not sure what to do since there's a pending charge on my account now...

Ahhh... Somehow when I read your original post I missed that you said you got a receipt( was half asleep lol, alarm woke me to take my meds). When I did it and hit the back button I didn't get a receipt. And thinking about it now I am wondering did I hit the back button or just click on Home to go back to the main page, and I really can't remember, although that shouldn't make a difference because either way the purchase wasn't completed. So sorry for the confusion. Thats what I get for for trying to do anything half- asleep Embarassed . Hope they get it straightened out for you and hope it doesn't happen again to anyonePray .

Thingfling has sold several variations of this item, and I now have four of them (lots of equipment here.) For the most part, they have worked well for me, however one of them failed rather catastrophically.

I tried to turn on my computer, and it wouldn't work. I noticed the UPS wasn't passing AC through. So I unplugged, then replugged the unit in.

At this point FLAMES shot out of the side of the UPS. I unplugged it, kicked it to the side, and let it crackle away.

Obviously, I went and reassessed where all my UPS units are placed. Don't put your UPS near anything flammable.

Continuing my post above - I opened up the Power Sentry unit that blew up on me. There are two fuses inside, plus a circuit breaker, none of which tripped when the unit burst into flames. This implies that the fault, whatever it was, did not involve the output circuit path at all. I found two of the four power MOSFET transistors burned to a crisp inside.

I also found date stamps inside the case. Date of manufacture was September, 2007. The battery was stamped May, 2007. I have saved the battery for future use.

Always thought fuses and breakers were intended to protect your house wiring, and not the device, but since this is between the equipment and supply, that might not apply. Must have had too much stuff plugged in, and no air circulation. Did the MOSFETs have decent heatsinks? I'll have to open one up, when this new one arrives (two outlets just wasn't enough). Fire and a lead-acid battery isn't a good combo, lucky you were there.

There was only one computer plugged into it, and that computer was turned off at the time it blew up. Not that this should have mattered in passthrough mode, anyway (passing AC through to the computer, no power backup function being performed.)

Air circulation was not blocked either - good thing, whatever was in the way of the air vents would have caught some good flames.

Plus, I have already pointed out that the output circuit was not loaded, otherwise the fuses or breaker would have blown.

The MOSFETS were on fairly average heatsinks. Of course, since the unit was not performing in backup mode, they should not have even been running, let alone getting hot.

I can happily say that mine arrived today..

It works fine, at least so far.

I was surprised but the unit I received comes with a USB cable, it comes with software but it does not work with Vista.

If you're running Vista you can grab it here:

UPSMON PLUS V2.85 Setup.exe
(Windows Windows 2000/ XP/ 2003/ Vista /200Cool

http://www.pcmups.com.tw...d/downloadsoftware.html

It comers with UPSMon PLus 2.72c, which for me would run but not work correctly on Vista, the version 2.85 works perfectly though on Vista Ultimate X64 that I am running.

It's very useful software, has nice little gauges , and it tells the load level of the UPS which is very nice.

Interesting - this may shed some light on the UPS unit that caught fire on me (above). BTW, I want people here to know that it did not 'burn to the ground' - instead, flame shot out the ventilation ports for a few seconds. The remaining burning was confined to the interior of the unit.

In all fairness, I bought a total of four of these - the one that blew up was the one that came in a $25 surprise box, unpackaged. For all I know, these may have been factory rejects or very early production runs.

Just the same, I have gone around and carefully relocated my remaining Power Sentry units so that they do not sit on or near anything flammable. On top of a metal computer case is a good spot, for example. My remaining units are all working fine.

Just got mine today. Will hook it up to the computer tomorrow. The latch portion of the battery cover was snapped off. Should have re-enforced it with metal, but just broke out one of 38 tubes of super-glue from Thing Fling, and patched it up. Will be surprised if it holds up, pretty heavy battery, and that's the only support. Will see I can do something to reduce the strain a little before putting it back together.

Like the 10 outlets, 5 will be plenty for my computer, and plenty of spares for stuff not needing protection. Should reduce the wire-web under my desk. Will also free up a squid...

The article cited is pertaining to the surge protectors and does not mention anything about the UPS... unless I missed it...

Well, I received my Power Sentry yesterday. Plugged it in last night and it was quiet for 10 seconds....then there was a loud bang and blue sparks shot out the side followed by a little puff of smoke and the smell of burnt electronics. Needless to say I dont think I would plug anything into this product that you werent specifically willing to lose.

Good luck to those that bought this, I can say my experience with it has been less than stellar.
