It is more than likely on it's way to you even if your 'My Flings' page doesn't reflect it. Mine still show processing and I already got them Friday afternoon. YMMV

Flings Flung: 40 total orders- Regular items- 22 Orders, 40 items; MB/AMB- 16 orders, 23 MBs/AMBs; 2 Canceled( 1 voluntary, 1 bad batch of Batteries w/ Chargers)
In 9 months of Flings I have already surpassed my purchases of almost 2yrs on that other DOD site where it's nearly impossible to get their mystery 'bag'... lol

I must have gotten lucky. I got one of these in a mystery box a while ago, and have been using it happily ever since. It replaced an Oregon Scientific model that never worked right - but this one chugs along like a champ. Accurate, and the transmitter has been flawless.

I bought 3 of these last July. They all work fine. One thing you do have to watch though is battery voltage. I use rechargable batteries and if they drop to low the main unit will not recieve from the remote. I bought some of the alkaline batteries and popped them into the remote and main unit. Not a hiccup since.

The boxes mine came in were in good condition with price tags from the store chain that originally tried to sell them.

I just got this unit and it wasn't the one THINGFLING advertised. Is bait and switch common here?

The unit they advertised was GE5805WS3-D and the unit I received is GE5805WS1-D....a significant difference in features.

Don't get too upset. Unfortunately this happens a lot on any site that sells "ends". "ends" is the term used for items that are sold to a vendor that are discontinued, stock reductions, etc. The vendor gets a great price per unit, BUT he has no idea what's in the lot he purchased. These lots usually include returns, incorrects, defectives, incompletes, etc. as well as the good stuff. That's why dummies like you and me, who buy these "ends" - end up with all sort of 'errors' when we get our orders. Neither the seller nor the buyer check through the lots because these lots can have two to twenty thousand units.

Examples: Here at ThingFling, I have the same problem you have - I received the same incorrect unit you did. Recently at Woot I received a unit that was clearly a return, and was incomplete. And from TigerDirect I received a unit which had seen better days and it was defective.

I notified the vendors, at this point Woot and Tiger have resolved the problems satisfactorily. I received my 'Fling' today, notified "TF" tonight and will await their response. I expect they will resolve the situation also, as all of my prior contacts with "TF" have been resolved to my satisfaction. Up to this point "TF", like Woot and Tiger, has demonstrated EXCELLENT customer service, so I'm not "having a cow man".

So, if you haven't done it yet, go the the "HELP DESK" and fill out a 'Ticket' and wait for their response.

Best,

Thanks for the input and detailed info ammatos.

I'm relatively new to the "one deal a day" concept but have a half dozen sites I visit everyday. This actually isn't the first time I received a product I didn't expect (not a thingfling purchase). Like that one, I'm going to overlook the "mix up" and use the product as is (as long as it works ok). Good thing we're not laying out major $$$s for these small bundles of joy.

I was also shipped the wrong thermometer (GE5805WS1-D). A unit with very few of the features that were on the expected unit (GE5805WS3-D). I don't believe that, under any circumstances, should you ever be shipped a product that does not exactly match the description of one that you were sold. I clicked the Fling me one button because I liked what I saw and had a use for it and all of it's features. I have no use for the one that arrived. I don't enjoy throwing my money away, even when we are only talking about a few dollars. It is about trust, and I am sure that I will hesitate the next time even though I have flung successfully many times.

I've been had! I too received a different model, but not only the wrong model, it doesn't even work! I'm beginning to think this site should be shut down! This happens too many times to be a coincident! SHAME ON THINGFLING!

I ordered the WS3-D version 6 months ago. I doesn't have features advertised by ThingFling and which were printed on the box. On the box it clearly states: DAILY MINIMUM/MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES AND TIME OCCURRED.....RESETS EACH MIDNIGHT."
That is why I ordered 3 of them......but alas, it shows max and min, but not the time. I don't know about the reset; I was so disappointed that it doesn't save the time, I haven't bothered to check out the reset feature.

dealbreak -

Just to clarify, these type of problems happened when we order deals based on "ends" ( aka "Odd Lots" ) because the seller and buyer simple agree on the price for the lot, and no one actually checks the stock. Those deals that are based on the vendors' OWN stock usually have fewer problems.

AND it isn't limited to "Deal of the Day" situations, the example noted above re Tiger was not a 'DOD' - just a regular deal - that was based on an "end" not on regular stock. When you get to be old as dirt (like me), you realize it just life 'passing gas'. Nothing you should let 'bug you' - especially when you deal with a vendor that willing to 'make it right'.

The situations that should really bug you, are when a reputable dealer sells you reputable goods and neither the vendor nor the manufacturer are willing to stand behind the goods. Example, companies like M$ and Bapple. Those are the ones that boils my blood!

Best,

a.

All that being said and my earlier post of being the victim of bait and switch, I actually like the model they sent me over the other because it's less of a presence in the room, easy to read, and it WORKS!

For those having problems with it working, use brand new alkaline batteries. Mine was flakey until I put new batteries in and it's been ok since. No guarantee this will work of course but worth a try before you declare it faulty.

Like many other Flingers, I received the bare=bones model instead of the featured one I ordered - no humidity, lunar phase, time, etc. Just temp. I already have one like that; wouldn't have ordered this.

daiuy - You like I, and other Flingers received the most basic model the "S1" - I feel your pain as I had purchased a "S1" locally @ one of the many 99¢ stores.

Based on some of the post here and on the info on the unit I received, it seems there where at least three (3) models in the lot ThingFling purchased.

GE5805WS1 - Indoor & Outdoor Temp. ONLY

GE5805WS2 - Indoor & Outdoor Temp., and Time & Alarm Clock

GE5805WS3 - The unit that TF advertised, with lots of features

I also recieved something different than what I ordered...

I contacted the help desk and they QUICKLY responded with an apology and an offer which I accepted.
The HELP desk issued three $4.33 stackable coupons to my account that don't expire untill 2010 and are letting me keep the Thermometers.
(I bought two (2) thermometers / I had spent $13.98 so I got two themometers for 99 cents)
I figure that is more than fair - Kind of a miniSHAG Applause
Thanks Thing Fling!

I received mine yesterday. Like so many others didn't receive what I expected.
Expected: GE5805WS3 - The unit that TF advertised, with lots of features
Received: GE5805WS1 - Indoor & Outdoor Temp. ONLY
I had ordered these once before from ThingFling and received the model GE5805WS3. I was very happy with them hence when they came up again, I jumped on it. But a little disappointed to have not received the same units this time as advertised. Sent a help ticket, waiting for response. Not really expecting to hear anything before Monday as it is the weekend.

The GE5805WS2 model would have been sweeter over the barebones GE5805WS1. I googled GE5805WS2 and got 3, yes 3 links returned in the search and all those sellers were sold out.

Needless to say, the GE5805WS2 is impossible to find now.
